Features:

Giant Destroyer Packaging: 1 Card, 4 gassers

Use For Gophers, Moles, Woodchucks, Rats, Skunks, and Ground Squirrels

HOW TO USE THE GIANT DESTROYER:

1. Find main runway and clear one opening for easy cartridge insertion. Make sure all other openings are sealed.

2. Insert fuse firmly into cartridge and making sure to leave two inches of fuse exposed.

3. Light fuse and insert cartridge into runway opening. Minimum fuse burning time: 5 seconds.

4. When cartridge begins to smoke, cover opening completely with dirt.

MOLES Locate the main runway, look for fresh conical mounds of dirt. Select the freshest of these, remove plug and dig in direction of main runway. If lateral to the mound is plugged, either dig past the plug or probe ground around the plug to locate main runway. Main runway will be found when probe meets little or no resistance. When runway is found, prepare an opening into runway large enough so that cartridge can be inserted easily. Collect sufficient dirt and other material for closing hole. Light fuse and insert cartridge into hole fuse-end -first. Cover cartridge quickly, but take care not to smother it with dirt. Quickly close any holes where gas escapes. If your excavations have divided main runway into sections, treat each portion.

POCKET GOPHERS Locate fan-shaped mounds with signs of recent gopher activity. Find the horseshoe-shaped depression on one side of the mound. To locate the main runway, probe ground 15-18 inches from mound on the same side as the depression. The main runway has been located when ground friction on the probe has been released. Dig down to main runway, taking care not to block it off with dirt. Create an opening large enough for easy insertion of the cartridge. Collect enough dirt and other material to close opening. Light fuse and insert fuse-end-first. Immediately cover opening, taking care not to smother cartridge with loose dirt. Cover any openings where gasses escape. Treat all active mounds.

WOOD CHUCKS Locate all burrow entrances. Select one for use and close all other entrances with rock and dirt. Light fuse and insert cartridge fuse-end-first. Cover with rock and dirt, being careful not to smother cartridge with dirt. Consult state game laws before using this product for woodchuck control.

NORWAY RAT Use only where burrows are isolated from homes, barns, and all other man-made stuctures. DO NOT USE inside buildings or anywhere where gasses could enter buildings. Collect plenty of dirt and other materials for closing burrow openings. Treat each burrow opening by lighting fuse and inserting cartridge fuse-end-first into the hole.(make sure hole is large enough for easy insertion before lighting fuse.) Cover hole immediately, taking care not to smother cartridge with loose dirt. Immediately cover all other openings from which gas escapes. Proceed to next closest burrow and treat as above.

GROUND SQUIRRELS Collect plenty of dirt and other material for closing burrow openings. Treat each burrow opening by lighting fuse and inserting cartridge fuse-end-first into hole. (Make sure hole is large enough for easy insertion before lighting fuse.) Cover hole immediately, taking care not to smother cartridge with loose dirt. Immediately cover all other openings from which gas escapes. Proceed to the next closest open burrow and treat as above.

SKUNKS Locate all entrances to den. Do not treat dens under inhabited structures or buildings where toxic gasses could reach humans, pets,or domestic animals including livestock. Openings to den should be large enough to permit easy insertion of cartridge. Close any openings to den other than the one to be treated. Collect material for closing treated opening. Dirt, sod,and a large rock may serve this purpose. Light fuse and insert cartridge fuse-end-first. Close opening, being careful not to cover cartridge with dirt. Close any previously undetected openings where gas escapes. KANSAS-Need wildlife permit.

FOR LARGE ANIMALS OR LONGER RUNWAYS, USE MORE THAN ONE CARTRIDGE

#1089 Havahart Collapsible Trap

#1089 Havahart Collapsible Trap

Features:

Easy to bait, set and release, this high tensile wire mesh trap is steel reinforced for long life and maximum resistance to damage.

The smooth inside edges are for the protection of the animal, while the two spring-loaded doors have sensitive triggers to ensure a quick, secure catch.

This model comes collapsed and is 32x10.75x12.75 when set up.

General Trapping Tips from Havahart: The following tips should be used when preparing to live catch your nuisance animal.

Havahart® recommends that you contact the Humane Society, or the local or state game commission before setting a trap to determine the lawful method of releasing a captured wild or nuisance animal. Many species are protected by law in various states.

Following the instructions contained in the carton, you may want to test the trap and spring it a few times to make sure that it works properly. For example, spring it by touching the trip plate from each end, This should be done also after the trap has been set and camouflaged to make sure it works freely. If you feel the doors do not work fast enough, place small stones or other weights on top of the door. This will cause doors to drop faster.

When you receive the trap it will be bright and new. Therefore do not be discouraged in case you do not catch what you anticipated the first night or day. The effectiveness of Havahart® traps usually improve with age. Some animals do not mind a new trap while others do. So instead of setting the trap to catch the first animal to come along, bait the trap, or simply place it where you intend to set it and fasten the doors open by means of a stick or wire.

After a couple of days, when you notice the bait has been disturbed or taken, it is time to set the trap. Camouflaging the trap is an effective means to entice the animal. Place twigs and leaves all over the trap to remove a lot of the glare from the trap. You can even spray it with water and throw dirt on it to give it a conditioned look. Animals will not be discouraged from entering the trap by the smell of your handling the trap or from supposed machine/oil odors in the manufacturing process.

Live Animal Cage Traps Models 1020, 1025, 1030, 1040, 1045, & 1050

Check the Trap--Occasionally the cage will shift due to shipping. Please examine the cage carefully.

Cage should not be damaged or bent. Bait pan should move freely Door locks should move easily from locked position over-top horizontal wire (illustration 1). Camouflage should not interfere with operation of trap If the trigger rods do not move downward freely, pull the looped trigger rod outward away from the cage keeping it aligned horizontally with the top of the cage.

Illustration 1 Illustration 2

With door locks in the open position, check that the doors can be opened by gently pushing down on trigger rods. Notice that trigger rod with offset loop is above straight trigger rod, so pushing down loop rod opens both doors (illustration 2)

Setting the Trap 1. Turn the door locks to the open position (illustration 1). 2. Push down on the straight trigger rod to open door. 3. While holding door open, place bait on the bait pan. See back for bait suggestions. When finished, close door. 4. Push down on the offset loop on the looped trigger rod to open both doors (illustration 2). 5. Position the flat end of the looped trigger rod under the flat end of the bait pan trigger, so that both doors are held open and the bait pan is level. (illustration 3). 6. Turn door lock knobs so that both door locks rest on doors (illustration 4). 7. Set and trip cage several times to be sure the cage is working properly. Trip trap using a pen or pencil, sticking an end through the side of the cage and pushing down on the bait pan.

Illustration 3 Illustration 4

Setting Trap for Large Animals (1-door set)

1. With the cage closed, move the straight trigger rod so it is above and out of the working range of the looped trigger rod (illustration 5). 2. Place bait at back (closed) end of trap. 3. Place a wooden block under bait pan on the side of the open door. Trap will only be triggered when animal steps on back side of pan where door is closed.

Illustration 5

Adjusting Trigger Rods

For all models, if a door is not level when the cage is set, hold the door open and level with one hand, and bend the trigger rod up with the other hand.

Correcting Over-Adjustment to Trigger Rods

On the 1025, 1030, and 1040, tension on the trigger rods should be only from door springs. To correct an over adjustment to the tension, hold the door open and level, and bend the trigger rod down.

Releasing the Animal

To release the animal, flip the door locks into the unlocked position (illustration # 1). Gently flip the trap on to it's side or upside down. One suggestion would be to use your foot. Back away from the trap. The animal will walk away on it's own.

Top Trapping Tips

* Be aware of weather conditions. Trapped animals should not be left out in the elements as they can die from prolonged exposure to heat and cold.

* Check traps FREQUENTLY. Wild animals stress easily and may seriously injure themselves as they attempt to escape.

* Other animals besides the target animal may get caught in the trap. If this happens, advice on releasing it safely can be obtained from a licensed wildlife rehabilitator in your state.

* Depending on the time of year, you may trap a nursing mother and if you relocate only her, her babies will not survive. To see if you've trapped a nursing female, stand the trap on one end to observe the belly.

* Traps should be washed, disinfected with a bleach solution (1 part bleach to 9 parts of water and let it remain on for 20 minutes), and thoroughly rinsed after each capture to stop the spread of any potential disease. Animals frequently defecate and urinate when captured and it is unhealthy to put bait down unless trap is cleaned thoroughly.

The following are good bait suggestions for squirrels.

* Cereal * Grains * Nuts (especially peanuts) * Sunflower seeds * Anise oil (a drop or two on bread) * Shelled corn * Apples * Mixed peanut butter and oatmeal or peanut butter and molasses, popcorn * One trapper swears by almond extract on bread as bait to tempt the nearest squirrel
